A new highway will connect Iași to Moldova through a €700 million investment
A significant step forward for connectivity in Romania has been made with the awarding of a €700 million contract for a new highway. This project, which will enhance the link between Iași and the Republic of Moldova, is poised to foster economic growth and improve transportation in the region.
The contract has been awarded to a consortium formed by Itinera (part of the ASTM Group) with a 40% share, Saipem with 35%, and ICM with 25%. With a total length of approximately 21 kilometers, this highway will not only serve Romania but will also extend into Moldova, with 5 kilometers of the route situated on Moldovan territory.
Saipem’s portion of the contract is valued at around €245 million, underscoring the financial commitment and resources dedicated to this infrastructure project. The awarding took place on July 2, 2026, marking a pivotal moment for enhancing regional connectivity and cooperation.
This new highway is more than just a road; it represents a bridge between two nations, promising to facilitate trade, travel, and cultural exchange, ultimately benefiting communities on both sides of the border.
