2026 declared the Year of the United States in Romania

In a significant step towards deepening cultural ties, 2026 has officially been designated as the Year of the United States in Romania. This initiative was solidified when President Nicușor Dan promulgated the law establishing this special year, following its overwhelming approval in the Chamber of Deputies.

On June 30, the project received a robust endorsement with 283 votes in favor, alongside 8 against and 4 abstentions. This initiative is expected to foster a greater understanding of American values and history among the Romanian public.

As part of the celebrations, a new park named after former President Donald Trump will be developed in Sector 4 of Bucharest. Mayor Daniel Băluță is at the forefront of this project, emphasizing the importance of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States as a cornerstone of Romania's democratic and Western pathway.

The park will extend from the existing Tudor Arghezi Park and will feature areas inspired by iconic American symbols, including Hollywood, the Wild West, and the White House. This design aims to reflect the friendship between the two nations and create a space for cultural exchange.

In April, a vox-pop conducted by București FM revealed that many Bucharest residents expressed dissatisfaction with the name proposed by Mayor Băluță. However, the park's development represents a broader effort to engage the public through conferences, debates, and cultural events that celebrate American history and values.

Additionally, the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Society and the Romanian Television Society are set to broadcast thematic materials throughout the Year of the United States, further enriching the public's knowledge and appreciation of this partnership.
