20 Jul 2026, 16:53

Nicușor Dan has officially promulgated a law designating 2026 as the 'Year of the United States in Romania.' This initiative aims to strengthen the strategic relationship between Romania and the United States through various events and activities.

The law, initiated by several parliamentarians from AUR, was adopted by the parliament on June 30. It reflects Romania's commitment to the principles of the free world, emphasizing freedom of expression and authentic democracy.

Throughout 2026, public authorities at both central and local levels will have the opportunity to organize or support conferences and public debates. Cultural, academic, and educational events will focus on American history and values, fostering a deeper understanding between the two nations.

In addition, the law facilitates public diplomacy efforts and enhances communication related to Romania and the United States. The Romanian Radio Broadcasting Company and the Romanian Television Company will also broadcast thematic materials to mark the significance of the 'Year of the United States in Romania.'
