UPT launches new study programs to prepare graduates for the robotics industry
The University Politehnica Timișoara (UPT) is taking a significant step towards the future by developing study programs focused on humanoid robots and autonomous systems. This initiative aims to equip graduates with the skills needed in a field that is expected to profoundly impact the economy and job market over the next decade.
Rector Florin Drăgan emphasizes the importance of universities anticipating changes and preparing individuals for future industries. He believes that a strategic and coordinated national approach to robotics is essential for Romania. With the global market for humanoid robots projected to reach $38 billion by 2035, and estimates suggesting it could generate approximately $5 trillion by 2050, the need for a robust educational framework is clear.
Specialists at UPT have identified AI-based robotics as a technological priority, particularly influenced by developments in the United States. Europe, being the second-largest market for industrial robots, plays a critical role in maintaining a competitive manufacturing sector.
The establishment of new study programs is a lengthy process, taking around five years from concept to the graduation of the first engineer, including one year for accreditation. Robert Kristof, who is responsible for the new drone and aeronautics informatics program at UPT, is part of this forward-thinking initiative.
Overall, a national strategy for robotics and humanoid robots is deemed necessary for Romania's economic, industrial, and strategic future. As UPT leads the charge, it opens doors for the next generation of engineers and enhances Romania's standing in the global technological landscape.
