Tiberiu Ghioane reflects on Romania's potential in World Cup 2026
Tiberiu Ghioane, a former key player for Romania's national team, believes that the country could have qualified for the knockout stages of the ongoing World Cup 2026. At 44 years old, Ghioane, who has 22 appearances for Romania and enjoyed a successful club career with teams like Dinamo Kiev and Rapid, continues to share his insights on the tournament.
With a wealth of experience, including 37 matches in the Champions League, Ghioane has been closely following the matches in the World Cup. He observed that the games have been very balanced thus far and mentioned that even teams finishing third in their groups could still advance.
Ghioane confidently stated that if Romania's team, coached by Gheorghe Hagi, had participated, they would have qualified without question. He praised the progress of smaller teams in the tournament and noted that he hadn't seen any team that embarrassed themselves.
As the tournament unfolds, he pointed out that among the 48 teams, 32 will advance further. Ghioane also suggested that the number of teams in future editions might need to be reduced for a more competitive environment. His reflections highlight the optimism and potential for Romanian football on the global stage.
