Salvați Copiii România launches campaign to boost vaccination awareness

Organizația Salvați Copiii România has launched the campaign "Povești de vaccinat copiii," aiming to inform and educate families about the importance of vaccinations. This initiative comes at a critical time, as Romania faces a concerning rise in measles cases, with nearly 28,000 individuals reported to be affected.

The campaign emphasizes the role of validated medical information in protecting children's health. Alarmingly, Romania accounts for more than three-quarters of the measles cases reported in the European Union, with over 35,700 confirmed cases in the country from 2023 to 2025 alone.

In recent years, the situation has been dire, with 30 lives lost due to measles. The vaccination rates are troublingly low, with only 47.4% of children receiving the first dose of the MMR vaccine, far below the 95% threshold recommended by the World Health Organization. In some communities, the acceptance of the second dose drops to as low as 20%.

Dezinformarea, fears of adverse reactions, bureaucracy, and limited access to medical services are all factors contributing to the decline in vaccination rates. In response, Salvați Copiii România is calling for measures that facilitate access to vaccinations and ensure that parents receive accurate information.

Parents are encouraged to consult their pediatric family doctor for tailored recommendations for their children. By prioritizing education and accessibility, the campaign aims to turn the tide on measles and protect the health of Romania's children.
