In 2025, Romania saw an impressive increase in cultivated land, growing by 40,000 hectares to reach a total of 8,214 million hectares. This growth highlights the dedication of the agricultural sector, particularly the private sector, which constitutes a remarkable 99.1% of the total cultivated area.

Among the regions, Teleorman stands out, holding 6.0% of the total cultivated area, followed closely by Dolj at 5.9%, Timiș at 5.2%, Constanța at 5.1%, and Călărași at 5.0%. These contributions reflect the diverse agricultural landscape across Romania.

The boost in cultivated areas was particularly notable for oilseeds, potatoes, and cereals. In fact, the area cultivated with potatoes increased by 7.4%, while rapeseed and wheat saw rises of 5.9% and 5.3% respectively compared to 2024. This trend indicates a positive shift towards more productive agricultural practices.

Despite the increase in cultivated land, the harvested areas experienced a decline, dropping by 79,100 hectares compared to the cultivated land. This decrease was primarily in vegetables, sugar beets, and green fodder, while harvests for oilseeds and cereals saw an upward trend.

At the European level, wheat dominates the cereal crops, making up 47.9% of the total cultivated area, with barley and corn following at 20.1% and 17.1%, respectively. This context enhances the significance of Romania's agricultural output and its role in the broader European market.
