Romanian students shine at International Chemistry Olympiad with four medals

Romania has secured an impressive four medals at the International Chemistry Olympiad held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This remarkable achievement includes one gold medal, two silver medals, and one bronze medal.

Ursachescu Matei Gabriel, a student at the Colegiul Național 'B.P. Hașdeu' in Buzău, won the gold medal, showcasing exceptional talent and dedication. Alexe Mihnea Gabriel, from the Colegiul National de Informatică 'Tudor Vianu' in Bucharest, and Stanciu Mihai, a student at Colegiul Naţional 'Moise Nicoară' in Arad, both earned silver medals, further highlighting Romania's strong presence in the competition.

Anghel Tudor Ştefan, also from the Colegiul Național 'B.P. Hasdeu' in Buzău, contributed to the medal tally by winning a bronze medal. This year marked the 58th edition of the International Chemistry Olympiad, which took place from July 10 to July 19, 2026.

The Romanian team was expertly guided by Prof. Dr. Daniela Bogdan from Colegiul Naţional 'Sf. Sava' in Bucharest and Conf. Univ. Dr. Mihaela Matache from the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Bucharest. Their leadership played a crucial role in preparing the students for this prestigious event.

The Ministry of Education and Research supported the national team's participation by covering registration fees, travel costs, and daily allowances for the students during their stay. The Ministry also facilitated the organization of local, county, and national stages of the competition, ensuring that talented students had the opportunity to compete on an international level.

The achievements of the students were celebrated through a message posted by the Ministry of Education on Facebook, acknowledging their hard work and dedication in representing Romania on the global stage.
