Romania shines with eight medals at Balkan Athletics Championships
Romania triumphed at the Balkan Athletics Championships, bringing home eight medals, including an impressive four golds. This achievement highlights the nation's strength and dedication in athletics.
The championships took place in Volos, Greece, where Andrea Mikos led the charge with a gold medal in the women's 400 meters, clocking a remarkable time of 52.26 seconds. Close behind her was Ștefania Balint, who secured a silver medal with a time of 52.66 seconds, showcasing the depth of talent in this event.
In the women's long jump, Ramona Elena Verman achieved a personal best of 6.78 meters to claim gold, while Alina Rotaru-Kottmann followed her with a silver medal at 6.64 meters, demonstrating Romania's prowess in field events.
Alin Alexandru Firfirică also contributed to the gold tally by winning in the discus throw with a distance of 63.49 meters. The mixed 4x400 meter relay team shone brightly as well, capturing gold with a time of 3 minutes 18.58 seconds.
Romania's silver medals came from Mihai Sorin Dringo in the men's 400 meters, with a time of 45.57 seconds, and Andrei Rareș Toader in the shot put at 19.95 meters. Both athletes added to the country's medal count with their impressive performances.
Several other athletes also showcased their talents. Jennifer Dossey finished fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 13.63 meters, and Cristian Gabriel Voicu took fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:47.89. Alin Ionuț Anton placed fourth in the 110 meters hurdles, clocking in at 16.86 seconds, while David Ștefan Damian came in fifth in the 400 meters hurdles with a time of 51.03 seconds.
The competition saw Anamaria Nesteriuc finishing sixth in the 100 meters hurdles at 13.57 seconds, Mihaela Blaga in sixth at the 3,000 meters steeplechase with a time of 10:37.80, and Federica Gabriela Apostol who also placed sixth in the high jump with a height of 1.84 meters. Sorin Alexandru Voinea secured seventh place in the 400 meters with a time of 46.75 seconds.
