Romania Secures Nearly 1 Billion Euros for Biodiversity Conservation
The recent rejection of a legal challenge against the Biodiversity Law by the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) marks a significant victory for the country. This decision safeguards approximately 972 million euros linked to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), ensuring that crucial biodiversity projects can move forward.
Mircea Abrudean, President of the Senate of Romania, expressed his optimism regarding the CCR's ruling. He highlighted the importance of each PNRR milestone, emphasizing that fulfilling the national strategy for biodiversity conservation is a vital step for Romania's environmental and economic future.
With this positive development, Romania remains on track to retain almost 1 billion euros from the PNRR. The Senate is also preparing to convene in a new extraordinary session, responding to the CCR's decision on the Integrity Law, further demonstrating the government's commitment to fulfilling its obligations.
Abrudean underscored the necessity for Romania to respect its commitments, warning against the risks of political blockages that could jeopardize access to essential European funds. The rejection of the challenge is not just a legal victory; it is a strong foundation for future environmental initiatives in Romania.
