Romania has taken a significant step in strengthening its defense capabilities by signing contracts for the acquisition of 12 Airbus helicopters and 12 Thales radars. The contracts, valued at 7.5 billion euros, were finalized on Friday at 11 a.m., marking a collaborative effort through the French Ministry of Defense.

The first radar is expected to be delivered within 11 months and will play a crucial role in detecting drones flying at low altitudes. The helicopters, on the other hand, will begin to arrive starting in the 38th month after the contracts were signed, with plans for interaction with the IAR Ghimbav platform for localization.

Additionally, Romania plans to finalize more contracts for military equipment by 2030, including a notable 200 million euro contract for the construction of drones in partnership with Ukraine. These strategic acquisitions highlight Romania's commitment to enhancing its defense infrastructure.

By opting for a joint purchase, Romania has secured a significantly lower price for the helicopters. Furthermore, the contracts with the French government include obligations for the companies involved to ensure localization within Romania, underscoring a dedication to domestic collaboration and economic growth.
