Romania celebrates three handball teams in the Champions League
Romania is set to make a strong impression in the Champions League with three teams representing the nation this season. CSM Bucureşti has successfully secured an upgraded spot, joining Gloria Bistriţa, which already had a guaranteed place in the competition.
On the men's side, Dinamo Bucureşti also holds a guaranteed position among the 24 teams competing this year. The expansion of the men's league reflects the growing popularity and competitiveness of handball in Romania.
This season will feature 16 teams in the women's competition, including prominent clubs such as HC Podravka, Team Esbjerg, and Brest Bretagne Handball, among others. The women's tournament will kick off with matches starting on September 5-6.
The draw for the group stages will take place on Friday at 12:00 in Vienna, with the format remaining unchanged, consisting of two groups of eight teams each. Meanwhile, matches in the men's league will begin on September 9-10, showcasing the best of European handball.
The decision for the tournament structure was made by the Executive Committee of the EHF, marking a significant moment for Romanian handball as it continues to gain recognition on the European stage.
