New Giurgiu–Ruse Bridge Project Moves Forward with Feasibility Study Contract
The Romanian National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR) has announced the successful awarding of the contract for the feasibility study of the second bridge across the Danube at Giurgiu. This marks a significant step in enhancing cross-border connectivity between Romania and Bulgaria.
The contract has been awarded to EGIS România S.A. and is valued at 50.04 million lei, excluding VAT. The study is set to be implemented over a period of 23 months, starting from the signing of the contract. The project is being funded through non-reimbursable European funds, part of the CEF2 program, which includes a component dedicated to Military Mobility.
The new Giurgiu–Ruse 2 bridge is designed to serve as both a road and rail connection, aimed at alleviating traffic on the existing bridge between Giurgiu and Ruse. This dual-purpose bridge will not only facilitate civilian transport but will also cater to military needs, underscoring its strategic importance.
Once the feasibility study is completed, the project will progress to the next stages of approval and technical design. The signing of the contract is slated to take place after a legal period of 10 days, provided no contestations are filed. This project is considered one of the most important infrastructure objectives along the Romanian-Bulgarian border, promising to significantly improve cross-border mobility and economic ties.
