New Automated Steel Processing Facility Opens to Boost Local Industry

A new metallic hall dedicated to the automated cutting of steel pipes and profiles has been completed, marking an important step in revitalizing Romania's steel production sector. With a built area of approximately 1,200 square meters, this facility is equipped with a fully automated CNC laser cutting system and features a crane capable of handling metal elements weighing up to 5 tons.

This initiative is part of Totalgaz's broader strategy to enhance its operations. Specializing in the production of gas regulation and measurement stations, Totalgaz is a significant player in Romania's industry, recently having its social capital increased by 41.5 million lei. This capital boost was achieved through the conversion of certain receivables into social shares, reflecting a strong commitment to growth and innovation.

Totalgaz, owned 80% by Dorinel Umbrărescu's son, with UMB holding the remaining 20%, demonstrates the UMB Group's dedication to reviving parts of the country's steel production. UMB is known as the largest road construction company in Romania and aims to restart production at the Oțelu Roșu steel mill, while also preparing the ground for the recently acquired Hunedoara steel mill.

In a recent visit to the steel mills owned by the UMB Group, BCR representatives, including CEO Sergiu Manea and key executives, emphasized the strategic importance of producing steel in Romania for the country’s infrastructure needs. The message from BCR underscored the commitment to reconstructing a vital capacity within the local steel industry, ensuring that steel produced in Romania supports the construction projects across the nation.
