Nadia Comăneci inspires youth in Cluj-Napoca through sport and education
Nadia Comăneci, the iconic gymnast, recently graced Cluj-Napoca with her presence, participating in both the Sports Festival and the Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF). During her time at the events, she led a masterclass attended by 600 to 700 spectators, sharing her insights on the importance of sports and mental well-being for children.
Reflecting on the emotional moments in sports, Comăneci expressed her feelings at the retirement event for Simona Halep, stating, 'Am plâns.' Her connection to Cluj is longstanding, as she had previously visited the city in 2017 and witnessed Cătălina Ponor's impressive performance on the balance beam, where Ponor secured a medal at the European Gymnastics Championships.
Comăneci emphasized the city's investment in sports and children's education, declaring, 'Este o investiție importantă în copii.' She highlighted that children are being exposed to 32-35 different sports, which allows them to discover their talents. 'Acești copii încearcă fiecare sport, își descoperă aptitudinea,' she noted, underscoring the value of diversity in sporting experiences.
Moreover, Comăneci spoke about the significance of mental resilience, saying, 'Mentalitatea se antrenează.' She referenced Novak Djokovic's perspective on training both the body and mind, stressing that children need to communicate their feelings and receive support. 'Cei mici să fie ocupați cu sportul, să se bucure, să încerce cel puțin 3-4 sporturi,' she advised, pointing out that such activities are crucial for their development.
As Comăneci encourages the next generation to engage in sports, she also noted, 'Lipsește o bază de copii implicați în sport.' Her heartfelt messages resonate with the community, inspiring a commitment to fostering a vibrant culture of sports among youth in Romania.
