Colibași photovoltaic park receives a significant boost with new energy storage system
PPC Renewables România, the largest private investor in renewable energy in Romania, is enhancing the Colibași photovoltaic park with a new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) of 4.47 MW. This addition will significantly increase the park's capacity to store energy, with a total storage capacity of 8.94 MWh.
The total investment for this project amounts to 10.5 million lei, with approximately 1.9 million lei coming from European funding through the Modernization Fund. The Colibași photovoltaic park, located in the southern part of Muntenia in Giurgiu County, spans around 15 hectares and has been operational since 2013.
Currently, the park is equipped with 39,310 photovoltaic panels that contribute to its renewable energy output. This new project also involves the construction of necessary infrastructure elements, including access roads, fencing, and safety lighting systems. Additionally, it will include arrangements for site operations, maintenance, and security.
The total investment for the project is 10,559,314.60 lei, with the maximum funding from the Modernization Fund being 18.12% of the total project value, equating to 1,913,027.69 lei. PPC Renewables România itself is investing 8,646,286.91 lei into this initiative.
As part of a broader strategy, the PPC Group is rapidly expanding its renewable energy portfolio across Greece, Romania, Italy, and Bulgaria. Their goal is to increase the total installed capacity from 7.2 GW by the end of 2025 to 18.8 GW by 2030. In Romania, PPC Renewables currently has an installed capacity of 1.6 GW and aims to reach 2.0 GW by the end of 2026, with a long-term target of tripling its capacity to 5.3 GW by 2030.
