Romania has been awarded the hosting rights for the European Individual Table Tennis Championships in 2028, a significant achievement for the country's sporting community.

The decision was made by the Executive Board of the European Table Tennis Union (ETTU) during a meeting in Gondomar, Portugal. Cluj-Napoca, known for its vibrant sports culture, will be the proud host of this prestigious event.

Cristinel Romanescu, the president of the Romanian Table Tennis Federation, expressed his gratitude to his colleagues Adriana Zamfir, Cristian Crețu, and Beatrice Romanescu for their support in this endeavor. He emphasized that this accomplishment is a joy, an honor, and a strong motivational boost for the federation.

Cluj-Napoca has a history of successfully hosting major table tennis events, including the European Cadet Championships in 2018 and the European Team Championships in 2021. The city also hosted the Under-21 European Championships in 2022 and is set to welcome them again in 2026.

In addition to this exciting news, Romania's young talents continue to shine on the international stage. Recently, Robert Istrate and Bianca Mei-Roșu reached the semifinals at the European Junior Table Tennis Championships, which also took place in Gondomar. Their success adds to Romania's achievements in the sport, including a medal in the mixed doubles event at the same championships.

Romanescu's rallying cry, 'Together we are Team Romania,' reflects the spirit of collaboration that permeates the Romanian sports community, fostering hope and ambition for future successes.
