Adrian Leață to represent Romania at WorldSkills-Shanghai in welding
Adrian Marian Leață, an 18-year-old student from Liceul Tehnologic 'Dimitrie Filipescu' in Buzău, has been selected to represent Romania at the prestigious WorldSkills competition in Shanghai. This marks a historic moment for the country, as it is the first time a Romanian candidate will compete in the welding category.
The 48th edition of WorldSkills will take place from September 22 to 27, featuring around 1,400 competitors from 73 countries and regions, competing in 64 disciplines. Adrian will be the sole representative from Romania in the welding qualification, a field in which his school is the only one offering training.
Adrian began preparing for the competition approximately four to five months ago and dedicates around four to five hours each day to refine his TIG welding technique. His passion for welding ignited at a young age, watching his father work in the trade when he was just seven or eight years old. He expressed enthusiasm for the challenge ahead, stating that he will be assembling a cube that involves corner welding based on a technological sheet that outlines requirements for executing a complex piece.
Lucica Stănculeanu, the school's director, highlighted the significance of this opportunity, describing it as a commitment to the future and a source of pride for Romania. The participation in WorldSkills reflects an aspiration for broader involvement, as Romania aims to take part in 10 to 12 different qualifications this year.
Looking ahead, Adrian has ambitions beyond the competition. He shared his desire to remain in Romania if a good opportunity arises, but is also open to exploring options abroad. Ultimately, he dreams of opening his own business in the future. As he prepares to make his mark on the international stage, Adrian serves as an inspiring example of dedication and passion for vocational skills.
